Malini Awasthi is among the most noted and popular folk singer in India. She sings in different dialects in Hindi like – Awadhi, Bundelkhandi and Bhojpuri. She also sings Thumri and Kajri.
Early Life
Malini Awasthi was born in the traditional city of Lucknow, in Uttar Pradesh. She completed her post graduation in Hindustani classical music from Bhatkhande University in Lucknow. She learnt music from the legendary singer of Hindustani classical music, Vidhushi Girija Devi.
Career
Malini Awasthi is among the regular performers at the popular festival of classical music, Jahan-e-Khusrau. Having a high pitched voice, the singer is popular forher hare rendition of the thumri, Thaare Raho Baanke Shyam. The popular singer was also a part of TV for NDTV Imagine’s Junoon. In 2012, Malini Awasthi was also appointed the brand ambassador of UP elections by the Election Commisssion. In the year, 2013 she also participated in the Kumbh Mela.
Personal Life
Malini Awasthi is married to the senior IAS officer in the Uttar Pradesh government, Awanish Kumar Awasthi. The singer has two children from her marriage, daughter Ananya who is a dentist and son, Advitiya who is pursuing law.
